Is there a Heaven? Are you good enough to go to heaven when you die? How can you be certain?
Well, there’s bad news and good news…
First, the bad news:
If you’ve ever lied, stolen, cheated, gossiped, been jealous, committed adultery, or even lusted after someone (Note: this is not an exhaustive list!), the Bible says that you aren’t good enough to go to Heaven. The truth is, none of us are good enough to go to Heaven because we have all sinned. Romans 3:23.
The Bible says the consequence of our sin is death, and after that we will be judged and give an account for our lives here on earth.
So, who’s judging? Jesus—the one perfect man, God incarnate, will judge everyone.
What’s the criteria? Well, there’s more bad news. We will be judged against the Law of God. You know the Ten Commandments, right? Well, if you’ve broken any of those (everyone has!), you aren’t good enough to go to Heaven. That’s pretty sobering, don’t you think?
So, what’s the good news?
God demonstrated His love toward us, and even while we are sinners, He sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross and take our punishment. Romans 5:8.
Jesus died for us! Jesus’ death paid for the price of our sins. After his death, Jesus rose again to life and He now sits at the right hand of the Father, in Heaven.
Then What Do I Have To Do To Go To Heaven?
The Bible tells us that if we renounce and turn away from our sin, believe in our heart that Jesus died for us, and turn our lives over to Him, we can go to Heaven.
